Upgrading, Downgrading & Switching Plans

How plan changes work — upgrades happen instantly, downgrades wait until your period ends so you keep what you paid for.

Plan Changes Are Direction-Aware#

Going up = instant. Going down = waits until the end of the period you already paid for. We do this so you never lose features you've been billed for.

Upgrades — Apply Immediately#

Click any plan card above your current tier ("Upgrade to Growth" / "Upgrade to Scale") and:

  1. Confirm the upgrade dialog. It tells you the prorated charge for the rest of your current period.
  2. Your card is charged the difference today.
  3. New features unlock immediately — no logout, no waiting.
  4. Your plan is recorded as the new tier; your next regular invoice will be at the new tier's monthly price.

Use case: you signed up for Pro to test, hit your sales potential, want Memory Inspector and the full feature set. Upgrade and have everything in 30 seconds.

Downgrades — Scheduled for Period End#

Click any plan card below your current tier ("Downgrade to Pro") and:

  1. Confirm the downgrade dialog. It tells you exactly when the switch will happen — the end of your current billing period.
  2. No charge today. Your card isn't touched.
  3. You keep your current plan in full until the switch date. All features still work.
  4. On the switch date, our system automatically applies the change to your billing and your tier flips to the new plan.

A banner stays visible at the top of the Subscription page showing the scheduled change and a "Keep current plan" button if you change your mind before the switch date.

Use case: you went from Pro → Growth for a holiday push, now want to go back to Pro after January. Downgrade now, you keep Growth through end of December, you flip to Pro on Jan 1, no surprise charges.

Cancel a Scheduled Downgrade#

If you scheduled a downgrade and want to cancel it before the effective date:

  1. Open the Subscription page.
  2. The "Plan switch scheduled" banner has a Keep current plan button.
  3. One click clears the schedule. You keep your current plan, billing continues as normal.

Interval Switches (Monthly ↔ Annual)#

Same plan, different interval — annual saves you ~15% on the same plan, but commits you to a year.

  • Monthly → Annual — applies immediately (treated as an upgrade in commitment), prorated charge today, you save going forward.
  • Annual → Monthly — scheduled for renewal date (treated as a downgrade in commitment).

What If I Have a Scheduled Downgrade and Then Decide to Upgrade?#

The upgrade wins, immediately. Your scheduled downgrade is cleared and the upgrade applies right now. We tell you this in the upgrade confirm dialog.

Cancelling Entirely#

Cancellation is different from downgrade — see Cancel & Reactivate.

Behind the Scenes#

This isn't a flag we toggle in our database. We use Paddle's subscription API to apply each change with the correct proration and timing. Paddle is our merchant of record — they handle the actual billing, taxes, and PDF receipts. You can also manage everything from Paddle's hosted billing portal via the Manage billing in Paddle button on your Subscription page.
